How to Slow Cook Chicken Soup

There is nothing more comforting and tasty than a hot bowl of homemade chicken soup. This hearty staple is ideally suited to a slow cooker as the low and slow cooking process really allows the flavors to develop, it’s also incredibly easy! Follow this simple guide to make perfectly cooked slow cooker chicken soup every time.

Ingredients and Tools

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs skinless and boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 large onion
  • 3-4 large carrots
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 8 cups chicken stock
  • 1-3 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1-3 sprigs fresh sage
  • Salt and pepper

Garnish

  • Fresh parsely

Tools

  • Suvie or a slow cooker
  • Large mixing bowl

Directions

Prep

Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper.

Dice the onion, chop the celery, and slice the carrots into rounds.

Mince the garlic cloves and remove the rosemary and sage from their stalks.

Suvie Instructions

Divide the chicken pieces, onion, celery, carrots, garlic, rosemary, sage, and chicken stock between two Suvie pans. Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine.

Add water to the reservoir, enter the Slow Cook settings and cook.

Slow Cook Settings

Protein: LOW, 6 hours

Starch: 0 minutes

After the cook, remove the pan or pans.

Slow Cooker Instructions

Add the chicken pieces, onion, celery, carrots, garlic, rosemary, sage, and chicken stock to the slow cooker pot. Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine.

Place the lid on the pot and Cook:

Low for 8 hours

Serving

Once the soup has finished cooking gently remove the chicken pieces and place in a large mixing bowl. Using two forks, shred the chicken pieces into large chunks. Add the chicken back into the soup and reheat if nessesary.

Ladle some soup into a bowl and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve with crusty bread.

Can I add noodles?

Yes, this chicken soup will work perfectly with some noodles. We recommend pre-cooking the noodles or cooking them separately in Suvie and adding them to the soup just before serving.

Can I use chicken thighs instead?

Of course, you can use any type of chicken pieces you like! If you’re using a regular slow cooker you can even try this recipe with a whole chicken, although this isn’t possible using Suvie.
