These beans will have everyone at your next barbeque convinced you just bought a smoker. We start this recipe by broiling aromatics and thick cut bacon to give this dish a well rounded and smoky flavor, then we add canned pinto beans for an easy wrap up. Try spicing it up by adding a chopped fresh jalapeno to the mix prior to cooking for a touch of heat that will really get the backyard party going!

Note: If you would like to schedule this meal but do not want to wait for the broiler to cool before refrigerating, saute the bacon in a medium skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 10 minutes, instead of broiling in Step 1.

Texas Pinto Beans

Ingredients

  • 6 pieces thick cut bacon, cut into ½” wide strips
  • ½ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp fresh ground pepper
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 2 (15 oz) cans pinto beans, drained and rinsed

Directions

1) In a Suvie pan, combine bacon, onion, garlic, chili powder, salt, pepper, and cumin. Load pan into your Suvie and broil for 10 minutes.

2) Remove pan from Suvie, stir in beans, and return pan into your Suvie, input settings, and cook now or schedule.

Bottom Zone: Slow Cook High for 1 hour

3) After cooking, remove pan from Suvie and stir. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Divide between bowls and serve.

Note: If you would like to make this recipe in Suvie 1.0, insert pan into the top zones of Suvie, fill reservoir, and set to Slow Cook on High for 1 hour.
