The chocolate is in the mail

Everyone needs a little chocolate in their lives, especially in the winter when the world is cold and grey. But what can you do if you live far away from a friend in need of a chocolate pick-me-up? Or a friend who is close by? Or yourself? The internet is here to help. Here are four of our favorite mail-order chocolate-filled goodies that you can get delivered to help everyone make it through the long, dark winter.

L.A. Burdick Chocolates

A chocolatier originally based in New York City, but now with cafés and stores all over the world, Burdicks is known for its adorable (and delicious) chocolate confection mice. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg: Burdicks offers special chocolates throughout the year, such as its current Robert Burns Whiskey Bonbons, and upcoming Lunar New Year collection with flavors from ginger and mango, to plum wine and Lapsang souchong tea.

Inexpensive yet delicious, a slice of Chocolate Babka (bread with ribbons of chocolate running through it) goes a long way toward curing the winter blues. Order a loaf or two from Green’s Bakery in Brooklyn, and you won’t be disappointed. Their loaves come in a variety of sizes, and can be frozen for future consumption, so consider buying one more loaf than you think you want now. I know from personal experience that this Babka disappears quickly once its package is open and sitting on the counter!

Simply Divine BrowniesSimply Divine Brownies

As the name implies, these brownies are simply, well, divine. Thick, chewy, and delicious, these treats are baked and packaged in Maine but can be mailed anywhere you like. Order the “not so plain Jane” for a pure, unaltered brownie experience, or go wild with flavors like “Chakra Cherry”, “Peppermint Peace” or “Crunchtime”.

Vermont Nut FreeVermont Nut Free Chocolates

For those with severe nut allergies, fancy chocolates are often off-limits. Never fear! Vermont Nut Free is here to save the day. It offers a wide variety of nut-free chocolate treats from chips and bars, to fudge and truffles.  For those with allergies, these confections are more than adequate to scratch that chocolate itch.
