Sure it’s a little kitsch, but sangria is arguably the perfect party punch. This boozy classic originates in Spain and for years has been people’s go-to drink for entertaining. It’s easy to see why. Not only is sangria sweet, refreshing, and eminently drinkable, it’s also incredibly easy to make. Here are three ways to serve Sangria.
Classic Sangria
You can’t go wrong with the classics! This Spanish original is the gold standard for Sangria. It’s tasty, refreshing, and incredibly easy to make. Grab yourself a pitcher and get mixing!
You’ll need:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 4 oranges
- 5 tbsp superfine sugar
Method
Cut one orange into 1-inch thin slices and throw them into a large pitcher or punch bowl. Juice the remaining three oranges. Combine the orange juice, wine, and sugar in the pitcher or punch bowl. Mix to dissolve the sugar. Fill the remaining space with ice. Serve and enjoy!
White Sangria
While classic sangria is fruity and sweet this version that uses white wine is zesty and tart. It’s a perfect drink for those who find the sweetness of sangria a little off-putting.
You’ll need:
- 1 bottle white wine
- 1 bottle or can ginger beer
- 2 oz St. Germain
- 2 limes
- 1/2 cup raspberries
- 16 oz sparkling water
Method:
Slice the limes into 1-inch thick rings. Place the limes, wine, ginger beer, St. Germain, and raspberries into a large pitcher. Chill in the fridge for an hour. Before serving, add the ice and sparkling water.
Peach Sangria
I first had a glass of peach sangria on a blistering hot day in Savannah. Since then it’s been my go-to drink for stifling hot days.
You’ll need:
- 1 bottle white wine
- 2 tbsp Cointreau
- 4 oz peach schnapps
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 lime
- 1 orange
- 1 peach
- 8 oz sparkling water
Method:
Slice the limes and oranges into 1-inch thick circles. Cut the peach into thin wedges. Combine all the ingredients except for the sparkling water into a large pitcher and stir. Cool in the fridge for an hour. Before serving add the sparkling water and some ice.
