Meal Card: Chana Masala with Fragrant Rice

Rich and saucy, our chana masala is a fragrant, flavorful, and filling meal. Tender chickpeas are cooked in a flavorful combination of tomatoes, ginger, garlic, jalapeños, and warming spices. Served with plenty of white rice and a side of green peas, this delicious dish will have you coming back for more.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 packages chickpeas
  • 1-2 packages masala sauce
  • 1-2 packages jasmine rice
  • 1-2 packages green peas

Directions

1) Place packet of masala sauce in a bowl of hot water to thaw. 

2) Gently tap white rice and green pea packages against the counter to break up any large pieces. Pour into a Suvie pan and season with 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (optional), 1/2 tsp salt, and ¼ tsp freshly ground pepper (for 4 servings, season with 2 tbsp oil, 1 tsp salt, and ½ tsp ground black pepper). Place pan in bottom zone of Suvie.

3) Open chickpeas into a Suvie pan. Pour thawed masala sauce over the chickpeas. Place pan in the top zone of Suvie. 

4) Input settings and cook now or schedule. Be sure to select “Yes” when asked if cooking from frozen. 

Suvie Cook Settings

Bottom Zone: Roast at 325°F for 15 mins (for 4 servings, Roast for 20 mins)

Top Zone: Roast at 375°F for 30 mins (for 4 servings, Roast at 350°F for 40 mins)

5) Remove pans from Suvie. Fluff peas and rice with a fork and season to taste with salt and pepper. Divide between plates.

6) Stir chickpeas and sauce together and season to taste with salt and pepper. Divide between plates with rice and peas Optional: For extra flavor, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and a squeeze of fresh lime juice just before serving.
