Need a sweet, pint-sized treat? Our caramel apple hand pies are portable and packed with tart granny smith apples and creamy caramel sauce. Finely chopping the apple makes it easier to seal the hand pies. For neat edges, you can trim the hand pies after sealing with a fork, or leave them as is for a rustic vibe.
Caramel Apple Hand Pies
Ingredients
- 2 (7 oz) packages store-bought pie dough
- 1 large egg
- 1 granny smith apple, peeled, cored and cut into ¼” pieces
- 8 tsp caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade
- 2 tbsp demerara sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Directions
1) On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into rough 12″ squares. Trim dough with a paring knife or pizza cutter into a 10″ square. Cut each square into four 5″ squares.
2) Whisk egg and 1 tbsp water together in a small bowl. Arrange 2 tbsp of chopped apple in a rough triangle shape on one half of one square of dough. Pour 1 tsp caramel sauce over the apples.
3) Brush the edges of the dough with the egg wash, saving extra wash for step 5. Pull one corner of the dough up over the apples, closing to create a triangle. Press to seal. Crimp edges of the dough closed with a fork.
4) Transfer hand pie to a parchment lined Suvie sheet pan and repeat process with the remaining pieces of dough. Once complete, transfer to the freezer for 10 minutes.
5) In a small bowl, stir together 2 tbsp sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Remove hand pies from the freezer. Brush with remaining egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Cut 3 slits into the top of each hand pie.
6) Place sheet pans in the top and bottom zones of Suvie. Input settings and cook now, rotating the pan halfway through cooking.
