This fast, family-friendly meal is packed with summertime flavor. Spicy, tangy chicken drumsticks are slow cooked until tender alongside sweet, creamy corn; together they are a winning combination. A premade barbecue spice rub streamlines this recipe, but you can also make one at home by combining 1 ¼ tsp brown sugar, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp smoked paprika, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp salt, and ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (you can omit the cayenne if you don’t want the chicken too spicy). Want to make your own BBQ sauce too? Our How-To Guide has three different types for every palate.
BBQ Chicken Drumsticks with Creamed Corn
Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken drumsticks, about 8 pieces
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 ½ tbsp barbecue spice rub
- 1 lb corn kernels, fresh or frozen
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tsp sugar
Directions
1) Rub chicken drumsticks all over with barbecue spice rub and 1 tsp salt (omit the salt if your premade spice rub is particularly salty). Place drumsticks in a Suvie pan and cover with barbecue sauce.
2) In a separate Suvie pan, stir together the corn, butter, milk, sugar, and ½ tsp salt.
3) Place chicken in the top zone of Suvie and corn in the bottom zone. Input settings, and cook now or schedule.
Suvie Cook Settings
Bottom Zone: Slow Cook High, 2 hours
4) Remove pans from Suvie. Pour barbeque sauce into a bowl, return pan to your Suvie, and broil chicken for 8-10 minutes or until browned.
5) Stir corn and season to taste with salt and pepper. If desired, puree half the corn mixture in a blender or food processor until creamy, and then recombine with remaining corn. Divide chicken and corn between plates. Serve extra barbeque sauce on the side.

Slow cook on low for 2 hours seems very short to cook raw meat. I did low for 5hrs and then broiled for ten minutes and it came out great!
I followed the directions but the chicken came out chewy. How can I prevent this next time? Can chicken thighs be substituted for drumsticks?
Hi Susie, sorry this recipe didn’t work for you. Sounds like the drumsticks may have needed a higher temperature. I’ve updated the recipe from Slow Cook Low to Slow Cook High. Thanks for your feedback.
There is only bottom directions what is the settings for the top?
Hi Rae, for Slow Cook mode, when you enter cook settings for the bottom zone it automatically sets the top zone to cook at the same time and temperature. The top and bottom will both cook at the same time and temp. Hope that helps!
